Ouse and Humber Drainage Board
We are an independent, locally accountable public body governed by a board of elected and council appointed members serving communities in East Yorkshire. We ensure the historic market town of Howden the villages of Gilberdyke, Holme on Spalding Moor and numerous other communities in the Howdenshire area of East Yorkshire remain sustainable through effective flood risk management.
We are an Internal Drainage Board, this means we are the Land Drainage Authority for our district and we exercise a general supervision over all drainage matters. We are the relevant flood risk management authority for most of our district except for matters concerning main rivers.
Our operations mean that 20% of the East Yorkshire is drained, an area that includes the M62 motorway. Our district is in the Humber Estuary and river flood plains. Our work reduces flood risk to thousands of residents, businesses and agribusinesses.
